Organisation of an exhibition

Description

Disadvantaged youth need self-esteem in order to find their place in society. The organisation of an exhibition with restored furniture – all restored  and hand-crafted by the young people themselves – is an opportunity to show gained abilities and get appreciation of visitors.

Description

This initiative was developed at Erlichschule in Speyer as part of the »Malerwerkstatt«-project, which is a non-verbal concept for preparing German and migrant youngsters aged 13 – 17 for employment market. The concept was developed in this special school for disadvantaged young people from a migrant or a socially difficult background, who are in danger to drop-out of society and the education system.

At the »Malerwerkstatt« they are taught how to handle materials and tools for different crafts. Every year the youth group presents their best pieces of work – mostly restored furniture – in an exhibition. This exhibition has to be planned and organized in cooperation with officials of the city of Speyer, which provides gallery space.
